Remedial Massage

Massage therapy is an excellent form of treatment for muscle tightness and soreness and often works best in conjunction with physiotherapy. It can also provide relaxation, stress relief and help with the recovery from over exertion. We specialize in remedial and sports massage. Both types of massage can help in the prevention and recovery of injuries and also help with the functioning of the different systems in the body. At Erina Physiotherapy Spinal and Sports Injury Centre we offer both 1 hour and ½ hour massage treatments with health fund rebates.

Pilates and Gentle Exercise Classes

The aim of these classes is to improve strength and stability, flexibility, muscle tone as well as general stamina and fitness. The program should help to improve capacity to perform everyday activities. Clients should wear or bring comfortable loose clothing, socks, and drinking water.
Stretches
  • Should be gentle, do not bounce at the end of the stretch
  • Take the stretch to the limit and hold it there for at least 15 seconds
Number of Repetitions
  • Should be increased gradually
  • Work within your limits
  • Breathe normally during all exercises
  • Do not hold your breath
If you experience an excessive increase in pain
  • Stop the exercise and try again more gently
  • If you still experience pain or any other discomfort, discuss it with your instructor.
Class time:
  • Tuesday @ 11am
  • Sunday @ 5pm
GENTLY DOES IT WITH EXERCISEThe classes are ideal for people of all ages who are recovering from injury, are interested in improving overall health or who would prefer not to exercise in a gym environment. The classes are a chance for people to take part in some easy aerobic and strength conditioning and to meet new people. Research has shown regular physical activity has positive, healthy benefits, regardless of age. Address: Suite 6a, 40 Karalta Rd, Erina 2250

Workers Compensation

We provide specialised physiotherapy services for workers’ compensation clients, offering prompt injury assessments, individualised treatment plans, and evidence-based rehabilitation (manual therapy, graded exercise and workplace-specific conditioning). Our staff coordinate with employers, case managers, and insurers to ensure clear documentation, timely progress reports, and compliant care. We emphasise functional restoration, graded return-to-work programs and recommendations to reduce downtime and prevent re-injury. By combining hands-on treatment, patient education, and outcome tracking, we help injured workers recover safely and return to productive work.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is great for treating patients with a wide range of conditions: Orthopaedic Conditions – early mobilisation of joints with the support of water and decreased affect of gravity.
  • Compacted fractures and stress fractures
  • Post plaster mobilisations
  • Dislocations
  • Muscle and tendon injuries
  • Joint reconstruction and arthroscopies
  • Subacute sporting injuries
Spinal Conditions – may help prevent weakness or loss of mobility without any stress on the back.
  • Acute back pain
  • Disc injuries with referred pain
  • Osteoporosis and crush fractures
  • Chronic back pain and spinal stenosis
  • Post laminectomies
  • Arthritic Conditions – exercising on land is often difficult due to pain, age, motivation, deformity and obesity. Water enables them to exercise with little stress on their joints.
  • Neurological Disorders – greater ease of handling patients without fear of them falling, to improve balance and coordination, to re-educate functional activities and patterns of movement, to improve their cardiovascular fitness and to enable the patients to be motivated and gain a sense of achievement.
  • Pregnant Patients– the effect of buoyancy helps relieve painful symptoms such as back pain or pubic symphysis problems. Suitable for antenatal classes or post-natal conditioning.
  • Aging Patients – can be taught to swim and given an exercise program suitable for their condition. This allows the patient to continue physical activity for fitness, rehabilitation and enjoyment.
  • Obesity- aquaerobic programs to increase fitness
Hydrotherapy has many benefits to patients including:
  • Pain reduction
  • Increase muscle tone and strength
  • Decrease muscle spasm and guarding
  • Decrease swelling and improve circulation
  • Increase range of movement and flexibility
  • Decrease weight bearing forces
  • Facilitates head righting and balance reactions
  • Improves coordination and movement initiation without the fear of falling
  • Re-education of functional activities
  • Improves fitness and endurance
  • Relaxation
  • Improves psychological well being and motivation
